15 common SEO Interview Questions that can be asked in your next interview

1. What is SEO?

3. What is the Difference Between ON Page SEO and OFF Page SEO?

On Page Optimisation means optimising your website and changing:

• Meta tags.
• Site structure.
• Title.
• Site content.

Also solving canonicalization problems and managing robots, text etc.

Off Page Optimisation means enhancing your web presence which involves social media marketing and backlink construction.

4. What do you understand by Cloaking?

Cloaking entails using deceptive techniques which give the user a different version of the webpage than the one submitted to the search engines.

5. What methods would you apply to decrease the loading time of a website?

You can use fewer images and external style sheets (unless necessary). You can improve the image and reduce the file sizes without reducing the quality. HTTP requests etc can be diminished using CSS sprites.

6. What would you suggest to the client who has a website made on Flash? How would you do SEO for the Site?

Search Engines find it difficult to analyse or read the content using Flash. I would recommend the client should use a substitute like HTML.

7. What do you understand by frames in HTML?

A frame is an HTML method which divides the page’s content into several parts. Search engines see Frames as different pages and they have a negative effect on SEO. You should avoid the use of Frames and use basic HTML instead.

8. What are the Most Important Areas to Include Keywords?

Page Title and Body Text are the most important areas where keywords can be included for the SEO objective.

9. What is keyword difficulty?

Keyword difficulty recognises how difficult it is to rank a particular keyword. The value is higher for more accepted words. It is more difficult to contend with thousands of other sites for a popular word than with tens of other less accepted ones.

10. What is the best way to select keywords?

Use a tool to establish the theme of your website. The whole theme is more important than separate keywords. Choosing competitors’ keywords with the highest concentration is not recommended. If your competitor has chosen the keywords incorrectly or they are not right for you this will adversely affect your website.

11. What is the Google Search Console?

The Google Search Console is a free platform offered by Google to monitor a website. You will get free:

• Crawl errors.
• Indexing data.
• Search queries.
• Backlinks information.

You can also submit the XML sitemap.

12. What is the main purpose of Search Engine Spiders?

Spiders index the contents of index sites. However, spiders do not examine sites for unethical activities.

13. What facets of a hyperlink are important for SEO?

Important Aspects:

• It is the place from which the link comes from.
• It is the place to which the link directs and backlinks.
• The anchor text particularly keywords are very important.
• The reputation of the website from which the link comes from is vital. If you link to link farms this could result in a ban.

14. What is robots.txt?

Robots.txt is a text file used to give directives to the search engine crawlers. These concern the indexing and coaching of a webpage, directory, file or domain of a website.

15. What’s your work day like?

This question allows the interviewer to get an insight into the candidate’s previous work experience. It also allows the applicant an opportunity to talk about their expertise in the field. If they are seeking a new career, they can use past positions to demonstrate communication skills and the ability to work in a team to assist the clients productively.
