By 2014 it is said that over 30 percent of recruitments would happen online. It is high time B-Schools caught up with the trend |
THE standing of a school in the comity of institutions is based on two parameters, quality of teachers and quality of its students. While traditional ranking schema examines both quality of teachers (faculty qualifications and research publications) and quality of students (only input quality in terms of education and entrance test cut offs), little or no effort is made to evaluate a school on the basis of a critical quality of its final output, the student who reaches the market.
It is the quality of companies which comes to campus and the kind of profiles that students get, matter the most in the long run. We have atcareers360_cmsted to capture both the details based on publicly available profiles of B-Schools alumni in LinkedIn- the popular social media site for professionals. In this issue we have ranked 75+ schools that had a reasonable number of profiles on LinkedIn (for a detailed methodology see pages 122-23). Based on our analysis two sets of information is being provided to the reader, a pen picture of the entire alumni base of the institute present on LinkedIn and a detailed ranking of 75+ schools in terms of the nature of jobs and the nature of companies that employ them.
The social media has come to play a larger role in the way we conduct our life and career. It is said that by 2014 over 30% of all recruitments would happen online. It is high time B-Schools caught up with the trend.
Where do you go from here
We have made individual profiles for all the 75+institutions that we have ranked. But we have presented only a sample of about 20 profiles spread geographically. Top colleges as well as Tier-1 and Tier-2 colleges are represented here so that you could get a view of how the alumni profile distinctly changes as one moves down the pecking order. For a detailed look at the alumni and profiles of all the colleges ranked, do visit our portal www.bschool.careers360.com in the coming days. The alumni data we present is partial and incomplete. In realty some institutions might have a slightly different picture. We acknowledge the possibility of distortion and exhort all the institutions to put up their aggregate alumni data online, so that organisations like us would be able to present an unbiased and clear picture to the students and guardians.
Education is the second most important decision an individual takes, possibly next only to marriage. So it is only in the fitness of things that he or she decides right and decides on the best.
Note :
- All the information that we have gathered is based on publicly available information of the individuals on LinkedIn.
- The aggregate graphs do include current students who are undergoing summer internships and have updated their profile with the name of the organisation
- For schools which offer more than one programme, while the aggregate includes all the profiles, only MBA, MMS, PGDM etc have been considered for ranking.
- The school-wise analysis is based on the universe that LinkedIn presents when you search for an institution and must be taken as indicative.
