Job description
Conceptual Cost Manager represent Global Operations (GO) and are GO voice in New Product Development (NPD) projects until handed over to OPM. It is CCM (or Sr CCM)s responsibility to guard the product cost by challenging Product Manager and R&D on their suggested technologies, specifications, material selections, design implementations and manufacturing processes. You will use your experience to work with the responsible Commodity Manager in Global Sourcing and the responsible Partner Manager to ensure the best possible product cost. Doing so, you help ensure Design for Value in our products from ideation to mass production.
Accountable for:
- Ensuring cost reporting represents the agreed working assumption (FCS, Volumes, Split, Logistic setup, Supply chain, features, functions, ID&CMF, location etc)
- Product cost estimates (to best knowledge) at given FCS including cost interval (with Cost Breakdown) according to required gates in product development model (KO, Pre-BC, (BC))
- Guide project through cost input and cost scenarios
- Total cost impact of a given solution.
- Challenge solutions/implementations and inspire project members in exploring options and alternatives and ensuring alternative solutions has been considered.
- Successfully manage your stakeholders ensuring understanding of relation between product features/specifications/performance and cost. Ensure commitment to achieve best product cost.
- Clarify & communicate product cost uncertainties. Lead the way to reduce the uncertainty to minimize risks for new product introductions.
- Mapping risk related to cost and GO responsibilities and work with mitigation
Responsible for:
- T1 RFI & RFQ Package and LOP Summary. Engage with Partner Manager and PjM. Secure capacity is optimized vs forecast.
- Initiate T2 RFI/RFQ process and engage with Commodity Manager from Global Sourcing. Drive Targets & Quote review.
- Providing lifetime product should-be cost breakdown according to Impact Master needs.
- Support the organization with value/cost analysis on our products, e.g. via should-cost modelling, and target setting (permissible cost)
- Investigate cost-effective designs and motivate others to pursue them. Explore manufacturability by mapping value/cost opportunities and their impact on the product design.
- Ensuring that functions in Global Operations are informed and activated to support material readiness for builds and ramp-up.
- Proactively take lead in identifying and driving improvements in Conceptual Cost Management
- Managing Cost Action List and ensure progress and follow up.
- A good ambassador for GO, go to person for team members and stakeholders
- Coach and mentor for other CCMs
Educational background
- Engineer background within mechanics, electronics, manufacturing or similar are preferred. 10 years experience in consumer electronics, small home appliances or security/surveillance devices with at least 5-7 years in a similar role (Cost Management / VE)
