About our Team

We are looking for a new China-based Scientific Editor with expertise in materials science research to join the editorial team of the Cell Press journal Matter. Since its launch in 2019, Matter has quickly become established as one of the world's leading forums for cutting edge materials research and insightful analysis and commentary.

About the Role

The Scientific Editor will be closely involved in all editorial aspects of the journal. Our China editorial office is in Beijing.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating submissions rigorously against Matter's demanding requirements for reporting novel materials research
  • Building global networks and commissioning world-leading submissions (including insightful front matter articles).
  • Contributing to and implementing a journal strategy that ensures Matter remains topical, distinctive, impactful and agenda-setting.
  • Collaborating with Cell Press colleagues to broaden our footprint. Ensuring we continue to meet the needs of the research communities we serve.
  • Traveling domestically and internationally to engage with the research communities Matter serves.


Requirements

  • Have a PhD degree and research experience related to materials. Having existing and deep networks in the a specific materials science research community is advantageous.
  • Have a passion for all materials research across the scope of Matter.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and an aptitude to develop exceptional links with, and influence, global energy researchers
  • Possess critical thinking skills and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research.
